Spring. Hit or Miss.

Spring. Hit or Miss.

Early spring catfishing in Kentucky can be a little unpredictable — and every serious catfisherman knows it. One warm stretch can get the bite rolling, then a cold snap moves in and seems to reset everything for a couple of days. Water temps drop, fish slow down, and suddenly that hot bite can turn into a grind overnight. That’s just part of fishing this time of year.

But don’t let that fool you — it’s still absolutely worth the effort.

Even when the weather is up and down, there are still plenty of fish to be had across Kentucky waters. Channel catfish and blue catfish are still feeding, especially when you stay patient, fish smart, and put the right bait in front of them. Early spring is all about timing, persistence, and not getting discouraged when the conditions shift.

And most importantly? Don’t let the cold rain scare you off.

Some of the best spring catfishing trips happen when the weather isn’t perfect. Cloudy skies, damp banks, and chilly mornings can still produce solid fish if you’re willing to stay after them. While some folks stay home waiting for “ideal” conditions, the ones out there grinding are the ones putting catfish on the bank.

If you’re heading out this spring, make sure you’re stocked with bait that’s built to perform in changing conditions. We recommend Katchin’ Kentucky Live Baits’ Bourbon BBQ Dough — a powerful, acidic catfish dough bait that’s clean, effective, and not messy. Or try the brand new Watermelon CR4WL Dough, a sweet, slightly cheesy, fruity formula that’s already turning heads and proving itself on catfish.

When Kentucky spring weather gets tricky, confidence in your bait matters. Stay after them, trust the process, and keep a rod in the water. The bite may be hit or miss… but the fish are there.
